Mutatio is made for private reflection with the I Ching. This policy describes the data practices of the Mutatio app for iOS and Android.

What Mutatio stores

Mutatio stores your questions, readings, notes, preferences, and app settings on your device. The app does not provide accounts, analytics, advertising, or app-operated cloud storage.

When data leaves your device

Your readings stay on-device unless you choose to export, share, or back them up. Those actions use destinations you choose, and their handling of data is governed by their own policies.

On supported Apple devices, the optional translation feature uses Apple’s system Translation framework. Mutatio does not operate a translation service or receive the text you translate.

Device sensors

Digital casting can use motion readings from your device’s accelerometer, along with tap timing and system randomness, to gather entropy for a cast. Raw motion and timing data are not kept after the cast or sent anywhere.

Retention and deletion

Your content remains on your device until you delete it. Deleted readings remain in Recently Deleted for 30 days before permanent removal, unless you permanently delete them sooner. Exported or shared copies are controlled by the destination you choose.

Backups

You can export a plain JSON backup or protect one with a password using AES-256-GCM encryption. Mutatio cannot recover a forgotten backup password. Backup files remain wherever you choose to save them.
